New EU Bioeconomy Strategy Meets Innovation on the Ground: ManuREfinery Delivers Circular Solutions

1. 12. 2025

The European Commission’s new EU Bioeconomy Strategy calls for a competitive, circular, and climate-resilient economy. The ManuREfinery project shows how these ambitions can be delivered in practice by turning agricultural waste into valuable bio-based resources.

The European Commission’s new EU Bioeconomy Strategy released in November 2025  sets a clear course toward scaling bio-based innovation, strengthening nutrient circularity, and enhancing water and soil resilience across Europe. A strong focus is placed on reducing dependence on fossil-based inputs while creating new value from secondary biomass streams. In this context, the ManuREfinery project directly supports these objectives by converting livestock manure into renewable energy, recovered nutrients, and bio-based ingredients for feed and fertilisers. Its modular and mobile biorefinery approach enables local deployment, reducing pollution and greenhouse-gas emissions while closing nutrient loops. By valorising manure at farm and regional level, ManuREfinery strengthens rural economies and resilience of farming systems. The project also demonstrates how advanced biotechnologies can unlock new lead markets for bio-based products. Overall, ManuREfinery provides a concrete example of how the EU Bioeconomy Strategy can be translated into tangible environmental, economic, and social benefits on the ground.
